RECREATIONAL AWARDS

Falcons Recreational Awards

Alongside British Gymnastics Badge Scheme we have designed our own levels for recreational gymnasts. These levels focus on two main areas. The first being “Core” which covers Floor, Handstand, Trampoline and Physical Preparation and the second being “Apparatus” which covers the apparatus equipment we have available in our purpose built gymnasium; Bars, Beam, Vault and Flexibility for Girls and Vault, Flexibility, Rings, Bars, P-Bars and Pommel for Boys.

The levels are based on the rainbow consisting of 7 levels starting from Violet working our way up to Red (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red). Following these we have 4 harder levels; Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards. These levels are for both Core and Apparatus. These awards come with a certificate and medal representing the colour of the rainbow they have achieved. Gymnasts who are already on British Gymnastics Badges can work on the rainbow apparatus awards. Once gymnasts have achieved 75% of any badge level their coach will pass that level using our sheep system and an email will be sent directly out to your email address on how to purchase the medal and certificate. They will then be able to move up to the next level. Once the gymnast has completed all the awards a final certificate and trophy can be earned.

The medal and certificate can be purchased from our shop. (Please note; do not buy an award before your gymnast has earned it in their class and you have received an email)

Gymnastics Assessment

When gymnasts’ first start they will be continually assessed by their coach to see what level they should start working at. It is of great importance to note that children develop skills at different speeds and therefore may be faster or slower at gaining their awards to other gymnasts in the group.

Furthermore children may be better on certain apparatus than others and therefore may be higher or lower on their apparatus levels to their core. Having both apparatus and core awards give a better opportunity for gymnasts to progress at their own level and gain more awards at the same time.

Please, if you see other members of your gymnast’s group go home with an award but not yours, talk to the coach or email admin first to discuss what they need to progress in order not to upset your child. Gymnasts all work very hard and try their best but sometimes may struggle with certain moves. Our coaches are focused on awarding the levels but only when the gymnast is ready. Coaches are acutely aware when a child has not managed a skill how upset they can be and will provide physical preparation exercises to help towards the skill. As our coaches do, please support your child with positive praise and a “practice makes perfect” approach.

The equivalent rainbour medals corresponding to the old British Gymnastics numbered badges are as followed:

8 – Violet, 7 – Indigo, 6 – Blue, 5 – Green, 4 – Yellow, 3 – Orange, 2 – Red, 1 – Bronze, Bronze – Silver, Silver – Gold, Gold – Platnium
